Gold Coast climb back to second spot following win over Jets

ROBINA [Surfers Paradise] - Wednesday, 13 January 2010

Gold Coast United regained second place tonight, but in doing so confirmed their initial season successful campaign, and the game also cost the visiting Newcastle side a sad injury to their custodian Neil Young, whose nose was broken by a boot from the League's top goalscorer, Shane Smeltz during the game.

Two first-half goals, both scored in a five-minute spell just before the break would have been enough to kill of this game for the home side.

For the losers, Newcastle would have been disappointed as it leaves them under threat from being chased down by the Wellington Phoenix who are only three points behind and with a game in hand. This was especially following their 3-1 win last weekend over the current title-holders, Melbourne.
